Thumbnail Redo

Better YouTube thumbnails. The proof is below — five real before/afters.

What a weak thumbnail costs you

Nobody scrolls YouTube at full size. Your video gets one glance at the size of a postage stamp, next to four other stamps, and the click is decided there — before the title is read, before the content counts.

A busy thumbnail doesn't fail loudly. It fails quietly: the video settles under your channel's usual numbers, and every upload pays the same tax again. Most of the thumbnails below belonged to videos running well below their own channel's median views.

The proof — real redesigns

Each AFTER is rebuilt from the channel's own thumbnail: one subject, big; the clutter gone; at most a few words in heavy outline, readable at feed size. Channel names are hidden — we don't name a creator without asking first.

Before: knifemaking thumbnail, small shocked host, thin yellow text smeared at phone size BEFORE — live
After: the host's reaction fills the frame, two outline words, dark blurred workshop behind AFTER — redesign
Knifemaking channel, ~400k subscribers. The reaction was always the hook — it now owns the frame instead of the text.
Before: flat top-down photo of a whole keyboard with clutter along the bottom BEFORE — live
After: one keycap in macro fills half the frame, dark background, two outline words AFTER — redesign
Mechanical-keyboard channel, ~7k subscribers. One keycap in macro beats a whole flat keyboard — the unboxing ran at a fraction of the channel's usual views.
Before: locomotive shares the frame with four text blocks in three fonts and an inset photo BEFORE — live
After: the locomotive fills the frame, calm dark background, two outline words AFTER — redesign
Model-railroading channel, ~8k subscribers. The star locomotive was competing with four text blocks and an inset photo. Now it competes with nothing.
Before: five text blocks in mixed fonts including a script joke line, host small at the right edge BEFORE — live
After: the host and his square-frame gesture fill the right half, dark sky, two outline words AFTER — redesign
Ham-radio channel, ~120k subscribers. Five text blocks became two words; the builder became the subject.
Before: small quiet text line blends into a bright hazy background, creator mid-frame BEFORE — live
After: the photographer with his camera fills the right half, haze darkened, two big outline words AFTER — redesign
Photography channel, ~340k subscribers. The one-line hook was drowning in haze; the person now reads before the words do.

What it costs

$20–60 per thumbnail, flat. Simple recompositions sit at the bottom of that range, heavier rebuilds at the top — and you get the exact number in writing before any work starts. A five-pack is $200.

The first one is free for the asking: email us a link to your channel, and we'll send back a before/after of one of your own videos. It's yours to keep and use whether you ever pay or not.

How it works

  1. You email a link to your channel or a specific video. No form, no call.
  2. We send back a free before/after of one of your videos, built from your own thumbnail — keep it either way.
  3. If you want more, we quote a flat price up front; you pay per thumbnail or by five-pack, and revisions are included until it reads at feed size.

Who it's for

Small and mid-size YouTube channels that upload steadily — hobby niches especially: making, models, radios, fishing, keyboards, cooking. If your videos get fewer views than your channel deserves and your thumbnails are busy at phone size, this is for you.
